first we enjoyed some balloon artistry by Tammy from Funny Faces (who is amazing! we're having her back in a few weeks, more on that soon)

Later, Vilas Zoo's "Henry The Lion" made an appearance and Lily FLIPPED OUT. She's on the fence about characters (like Mickey or Disney Princesses, or Santa in costume, etc) and this was not okay with her.
Ahh! A lion has my baby!
Do not like!
REALLY DO NOT LIKE! (you cant tell, but my dignified little lady is screaming and crying!)

Luckily Daddy knew just what to do. He took Lily and Henry the Lion aside and let Lily meet the lovely zoo volunteer, Shirley, who was doing a fantastic job as Henry. Shirley explained that it would be their little secret that she was in there, but not to be scared because she isn't REALLY a lion. Once Lily met Shirley, they were BFF. She kept saying "We have a secret!" and leading "Henry" around by the hand. Too cute.
Here is a picture of me and Charlie at the event.. not sure what I'm doing! (LOVE my ergo carrier!)

Toward the end of the afternoon there was a nice short line for face painting, so Lily got her turn. Amy Nelson from Jolly Giants (also AMAZING! she's so patient with those wiggly kiddos and does such a beautiful job!)
Mardi Gras Tiger, complete with purple eyebrows and green whiskers!

Too much BALLOOOOOON. :)
in the end, lots of kids had a lovely time. we met our goal of raising $3000 for one of our favorite places, Madison's FREE Vilas Zoo.

That face painting is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree with Lily. That lion is pretty scary!
