Food, Glorious Food!

Slimy, yet satisfying.

Solid foods haven't been high priority for us since nursing has been going so fabulously, but we've made an effort to let him start exploring foods sometimes.

This is maybe his fifth or sixth experience with food. He's already doing really well at feeding himself. He's also doing well eating from a spoon. Yay.

I was just thinking most babies don't have their organic peas made into baby food in an italian marble mortar and pestle.

To be honest, this happened because our fancy blender has a broken part.

On the last day of Fitchburg Days my extremely patient big girl got to get out and enjoy the festival!

While wearing Charlie all day was tiring (my poor back!), it did help him sleep better at night! He slept well Saturday night and Sunday night slept 6 hours straight, then nursed and slept 5 hours straight. This is unprecedented, but I would like this to be our new normal, please.

We are spending our Monday recovering by catching up on laundry and housework, snuggling a lot, listening to what lily has to say (it was so loud all weekend that although I made an effort to listen, I feel lily might have been ignored a lot), and trying to rehabilitate Lily into her pre-fitchburg days love of eating foods and beverages that aren't blue.

We had a booth at Fitchburg Days to serve up yummy jambalaya, vegetarian red beans and rice, muffaletta sandwiches and cornbread. Dave and I worked the booth most of the weekend with a few nice breaks provided by Parry and Veronica.

The plan was to send babies to spend time with Parry and Veronica, Tami and Patrick, and sometimes just home with me but the kids really handled all the noise and chaos of the festival well and everyone was enjoying having them there, so they mostly stayed with us. After working on my feet the better part of three days with a 20lb baby strapped to my chest, I am tired and sore, but thankful that my baby felt loved and secure while I worked. There is no way he would have put up with it any other way.

Did I mention I also groomed dogs on Friday and Saturday, then raced over to work the booth the rest of the day? I am kind of awesome.

Last day of school!

She has loved learning and trying new things with her very patient teachers Miss Jamie and Miss Jackie. I don't know how they do it! Managing 8 three year olds can't be easy!

Fitchburg Farmers Market! Thanks for being on thursdays (daves day off) so we have a chance of actually getting there.

I could not get her to stop pretending to milk the cow long enough to get a picture. Too silly.

Lily really enjoyed the Sequoya Branch of the Madison Public Library

And so did Charlie, because they had a tube filled with colorful feathers.

Lily "graduated" from her first year of preschool! So cute to see the littles feeling so proud and and trying to act very grown up as they walked across the stage to take a bow. Too Cute.

The other portion of the event was an art fair where they displayed work from all the kids from the whole year. It's amazing to see how (already! at only 2 and three years old!) each of them took the same project idea and made it slightly differently.

We opened the pool today and pretended it was summer. (thanks papa and rara for the help!)

Boo hoo! Lily burned her hand pretty badly on a light bulb and we had the wound covered over night to keep her from bumping it too much.

We've been working hard on the alphabet lately and she's learning to write her name so she was thrilled when we took off the bandage to find an "L" ("like my name mama! L is for liliana mama!")


I feel a little weird that she's so thrilled about this injury, but at least if it leaves a scar it's on her Left hand!

Got lily ready for preschool, groomed dogs, took the kids to the park for a while, made lunch, tried (and failed) to get lily to take a nap, tried (and failed) to get some cleaning done, made dinner, managed lily's epic "i-really-needed-that-nap-i-skipped" tantrums, read books, got kids to bed.

Not the most exciting day in the world, but the windows were open and the air was breezy and fresh and my little fashionista keeps me laughing with her new favorite pastime-sneaking into her room for 20 minutes at a time, scattering her room with clothes and reappearing to show off her ensemble proudly, also lily worked with bailey (my wild ferocious yorkie) again today and he didnt eat her, so...all around good day.

my girl loves her leggings for dress up. according to lily, it's just not an outfit without leggings.

charlie was enjoying feeding himself some avocado, when he decided to try out his first avocado facial. it was truly IN his hair, ears, nose, chins, armpits, belly button, everywhere. I'm impressed.

and then he got mad that i wouldnt let him grab the camera with avocado hands. ew.

Uncle Terry (from the West Virginia branch of the family tree) just made reservations to come visit all of us Heide's here in Madison!

Terry is such a fantastic guy! We are thrilled to get to visit with him, take him to Liliana's and of course introduce him to Charlie.

When he met Lily they formed an instant bond, I know they will love each other just as much in a few weeks when we get to see him again.

Happy mothers day to all the mamas. Just having a "this is what it's all about night" with my kids.
Snuggling, making homemade pizza with my little chef (lily loves making/eating every-veggie-in-the-fridge pizza!), followed by happy babies in fresh jammies snuggled in a fluffy bed reading countless bedtime books and kissing.

I forgot to include, Dinner at the House of Embers!

we had such a nice meal! It's so nice to go out to eat somewhere nice that isn't ours!

My adventurous Lily started with some escargot and had lobster as her entree (not joking! she LOVED it) she also can't stop talking about her "sparkly draaaaagon" which is the kid cocktail they made her.

The restaurant itself has been there something like 50 years, the sons of the original owners went to culinary school as young men and returned to take over the family business, and their sister appears to run the front of house. Its so nice that the restaurant has been a part of their family for so long!
